Hey, I'm Marcus

Born in Vegas, raised in Vegas, and probably dying in Vegas. This is my love letter to the city that shaped me.

👋 About Me

My name is Marcus Rivera, and I've been calling Las Vegas home for all 29 years of my life. I was born at Sunrise Hospital, grew up in Summerlin when it was still mostly dirt lots and dreams, and graduated from Palo Verde High School back in 2013.

Most people think Vegas is just the Strip - this glittering playground where tourists come to lose money and make questionable decisions. But for those of us who grew up here, Vegas is hiking trails that lead to secret swimming holes, Friday night football games under desert stars, and a community that's way tighter than anyone gives us credit for.

I started this blog because I was tired of seeing my city reduced to casino stereotypes and tourist trap articles. Vegas locals have stories worth telling - about the underground music scene that thrives in converted warehouses, the family-owned restaurants that have been feeding neighborhoods for decades, and the weird, wonderful reality of growing up in America's most misunderstood city.

Why "Home is Vegas"?

People always ask if I ever wanted to leave. The truth? I tried. Spent two years in Portland after high school, thinking I needed to escape to find myself. Turns out, myself was right here all along. There's something about Vegas that gets in your blood - the energy, the possibility, the way the desert makes you feel both infinite and grounded at the same time.

This city taught me that home isn't perfect, but it's yours. Vegas has its problems - gentrification, water issues, the weird relationship between locals and tourism. But it's also got soul, community, and stories that deserve to be told by people who actually live them.

🎭 What You'll Find Here

This isn't a travel blog or a "best of" list. It's real talk from someone whose high school hangout spots are now luxury condos, who's watched neighborhoods transform, and who still gets excited about finding a new taco truck or underground show venue.

I write about the entertainment that locals actually enjoy, the food spots we guard like secrets, staying healthy in a city that never sleeps, the sports culture that's exploded here, and the legal realities of living in Nevada's unique landscape.

🎯 My Mission

Vegas deserves better than tourist trap reviews and casino marketing. The real Vegas - the one where people build lives, raise families, chase dreams, and create community - that's the Vegas worth writing about.

Every post comes from genuine experience. When I review a restaurant, I've eaten there multiple times with my own money. When I write about legal issues, it's because I've navigated Nevada's unique system myself.
